Terahertz radiation, also known as far-infrared radiation, submillimeter waves, and even T-rays, represents the next generation of sensor technology.
This vast region of the electromagnetic spectrum with frequencies from 100 GHz to 10 THz, and wavelengths from 30 microns to 3 mm, presents many challenges and opportunities. Terahertz waves can penetrate several materials (clothes, cardboard, paper, ceramic, fog), and thus can be used for non invasive imaging and inspection. As opposed to X-rays, it is non-ionizing radiation and presents no health risks.
