Optical Frequency Converters

Frequency Converters

Our optical frequency converters are intended to convert the frequency of continuous-wave single-frequency lasers into spectral regions which lasers are inexistent or expensive such as the ultraviolet (UV) or mid-infrared (MIR). This is acomplished by non-linear optical process such as second harmonic generation or parametric down conversion. They can thus be configured as frequency doublers or optical parametric oscillators (OPOs). The optical converter consists of a nonlinear crystal (such as LBO, BBO or PPLN) placed inside an optical cavity.

This system is very versatile and can be configured for many wavelength, by proper selection of crystal and mirrors. Typical applications of frequency doublers is the generation of UV light from visible lasers (Green 532 → UV 266 nm,  blue 488 → UV 244 nm or red 660 → UV 330 nm ) or visible light generation from infrared lasers (Ti: sapphire 700-1000 nm → 350-500 nm, Nd: YAG 1064 nm → 532 nm green, diode lasers and fiber lasers).
